Devin Mesoraco Hits A Homer For The 5th Straight Game TUES: ALL Streaks Of 2 Or More 2014

Devin Mesoraco is hitting HRs at a record pace this year, with 14 HRs in just 150 AB. He is among the leaderboards in all of the Catchers offensive categories despite a heavy DL stint. Heading into play today, he has 3 Slashed .320/.387/.667 - and added 40 RBI in his 43 Games Played this campaign. He has also hit a HR in 5 consecutive games. If he can hit a HR in the next game he plays, Mesoraco will be entering extremely rarified air.

Devin Mesoraco has finally arrived for the Reds.

The Catcher is completely on fire, homering for his 5th straight game on Tuesday night, and giving him 14 on the year in just 150 AB (1 HR/10.72 AB).

The 26 Year Old Catcher is now trailing just Evan Gattis for the NL and MLB lead for the position despite playing in just 43 Games.

He is also in 2nd for RBI with 40 (2nd to Miguel Montero‘s – 43) which is almost a man knocked in per game.

Mesoraco was drafted in the 1st round (15th) of the 2007 MLB Amateur Draft.

The franchise has thought so much of his potential, they have traded away Ramon Hernandez, Yasmani Grandal and Ryan Hanigan to clear a spot for him to thrive.

Kevin Mench is the last MLB'r to have a 7 game HR Streak. He did this in April of 2006

Barry Bonds is the only player in MLB history to have 2 streaks of 6 games in a row with a Home Run.

That he had.  Last night he also became the 1st MLB’er to hit a HR in 5 straight games this season.

The record for Homers in consecutive games is still a 3 way tie for 8, with Dale Long, Ken Griffey. JR and Don Mattingly.  Mattingly hit the most for the 8 games with 10.

Donnie Baseball holds the record for most HRs hit in a 8 game HR streak stretch ever - with big flies in July of 1987. The Yankees 1B also would establish a record for 6 grandslams in one year that campaign, (since tied by Travis Hafner in 2006. Mattingly knocked in 23 RBI with those 10 HRs.

In his next game, Mesoraco will attempt to be the 1st NL player to hit a HR in 6 straight games since Morgan Ensberg did it during April of 2006.

The last guy in the AL to knock out balls 6 games in a row was Chris Davis, who dialed long distance 6 straight games during the last week of the 2012 campaign.

Only 20 players have ever hit HRs in 6 consecutive contests, and there is only player (Barry Bonds) who has done it multiple times (7 games in a row in 2004, and 6 times in 2001, while he was setting the ALL – Time single season mark.

About chuckbooth3023

I played competitive baseball until 18 years old and had offers to play NCAA Division 1 University Baseball at Liberty University. Post-concussion symptoms from previous football and baseball head injuries forced me to retire by age 19. After two nearly made World Record Attempts in 2008, I set a New World Record by visiting all 30 MLB Parks (from 1st to last pitch) in only 24 Calendar Days in the summer 0f 2009. In April of 2012, I established yet another new GWR by visiting all 30 Parks in only 23 Calendar Days! You can see the full schedule at the page of the www.mlbreports.com/gwr-tracker . In 2015, I watched 224 MLB Games, spanning all 30 MLB Parks in 183 Days. Read about that World Record Journey at http://mlbreports.com/183in2015/229sked2015/
